The origin of cultism in Nigeria

The student cult organization in Nigeria was registered in 1952.

As a social-cultural club by the name, National Association of Sea Dogs (pirates confraternity).

It was co-founded by Professor Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate for literature, and six other students in a Nigerian university.

For a reason of which represent the best of academic, social and cultural ideals.

  • People join different cults to become the master of their destiny.

They want to decide the direction of their lives without leaving it for fate and chances to decide for them.

  • One of the reasons why people join cultism is to have important contacts and connections

With them, being in a group like that, they will have connections with each other.

Their contact extends to other big politicians who usually use them for the political underground movement.

People also, join cultism is to escape the punishment for the crime which they commit.

Being in a group like this gives a person an edge to act the way he wants without being careful.

this is because the person believes without all measures that he won’t be bothered.

One of the reasons people join cultism is to have access to supernatural powers:

With all these initiations, they get influenced by different fetish practices.

This will enable them to acquire powers beyond the physical realm.

People also,  join cultism to help them acquire ammunition.

They have a hierarchy that is affiliated with the government.

They usually get access to these weapons and used it for killing themselves.

Cult group usually recruit cult members by secretly announcing to an interested group and for people that can easily accept the proposal.

Through Direct invitation

The direct invitation is one of the ways cult groups recruit members.

This is because a cult group usually goes to members that are currently having issues.

There are people that are threatened by different cult group on a daily basis, so these people can easily accept invitations

They recruit through deceit etc.

Members can also be recruited by cult member lying to them like how Michael and his brother was deceived.

How to subdue the actions of cultism in Nigeria universities

Universities should strengthen their security system and surveillance system

Secondly, the university should be autonomous in implement their rules against cultism

Thirdly, the universities should bring up a disciplinary committee

Universities should also interview their student very well before admitting external candidates

The various Universities in Nigeria should make learning enjoyable and should give assignments to keep the students engaged

Finally, Universities in Nigeria  should also implement their rules, regulations, and punishment themselves

They should also hold the ideals of when you pass you will be promoted and when you fail, you fail out.

This will make the students take their academic sessions seriously.
